    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between etching and engraving?

Etching is a chemical process that uses acids or other solutions to remove material from the surface, resulting in finely detailed designs with subtle depth. In contrast, engraving is a mechanical process where a tool physically carves into the material, creating deeper, more tactile impressions.

What is the average depth for etching metals?

Depth of the design is going to be dependent on the nature of the process. The typical depth will range from 0.001" ~ 0.030". Limitations include the substrate thickness and the quality of the resist mask applied to the surface.

Electroforming vs Etching? Which is the King of precision?

Electroforming technology is renowned for its ability to capture intricate details with resolutions typically in the 1-3 micron range. This process can reliably reproduce microscopic nuances, ensuring every detail is maintained with exceptional consistency, even in high-volume production. In addition, electroforming can be more cost effective for large production runs.
